What is hygge?
Hygge (pronounced hue-guh) is a Danish word used to describe a special feeling of cosy contentment and well-being through enjoying the simple things in life. While there is no single English word that can translate or define 'hygge,' a combination of words such as cosiness, charm, happiness, contentment, security, familiarity, comfort, reassurance, and simplicity can convey the essence of hygge.
If you’ve ever enjoyed drinking a cup of hot chocolate on a rainy Sunday or cozied up on the sofa watching a feel-good movie, you’ve experienced hygge without even knowing it.
What is hygge home?
Established in 2020, Hygge Home is a space created by Adeline to allow her guests to experience the tropical hygge lifestyle, making ordinary days extraordinary by embracing life’s simple pleasures. It features an understatedly chic design and an atmosphere that is cosy—a perfect place to unwind and find your inner ‘zen,’ relaxing both body and mind. Adeline truly hopes you enjoy this intimate and unique experience in her hyggelig home, rather than opting for an impersonal hotel stay.

Meet the host
Hi! My name is Adeline. I grew up in Kuantan, Malaysia, but as a true vagabond, I left home at 17 to study, work, and travel, and have lived in various countries, including Japan, the United Kingdom, Singapore, and the United States.
I have always admired how Denmark consistently ranks as one of the happiest countries in the world, despite its harsh, cold, dark, and wintry weather. The Danes attribute their happiness to the concept of ‘hygge.’ Instead of yearning for the sun, they’ve figured out how to be happy by keeping things simple.
My first encounter with this intriguing word was in a bookstore, where I stumbled upon the book ‘Hygge’ by Marie Tourell Søderberg. I was truly inspired by it and have since wanted to introduce this concept at home to celebrate it in a tropical climate.
By creating Hygge Home, I want to empower you. Instead of lamenting the hot and humid weather, let’s draw inspiration from hygge and find ways to be happy by keeping things simple.
